An accident on the Accra – Cape Coast highway involving a Fuel Tanker with registration number WR 2063-10 and a Youtong bus with registration number GT 5866-L resulted in death of sixteen (16) persons and rendered other forty (40) severely injured.
The injured persons are being rushed to the Trauma and Specialist Centre in Winneba for immediate treatment. DO2 Kwesi Hughes, the Municipal Fire Officer for Winneba stated that it is possible the driver was tired and sleeping leading to the ghastly accident.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service did their best to come to the aid of the trapped victims in the Youtong Bus. The mate of the tanker died before he was removed by the rescue team.
The bus was traveling from Abidjan to Buduburam while the tanker was loaded with petrol and on the way from Accra to Takoradi.
