The Beyond Beans Foundation, based in the Netherlands and operating in West Africa, is the implementation partner of ETG Trading Company for sustainable cocoa programs. We work closely with our Sustainability Team in West Africa, cocoa suppliers, and program partners to support farmers in improving their farming practices, tackling child labor, empowering women, and protecting the environment through agroforestry and conservation efforts.
Position: Field Officer
Location: Ghana
Responsibilities:
1. Training: As a Field Officer, your primary responsibility will be to provide theory and practical training sessions to approximately 500 farmers in dedicated cocoa growing communities of Ghana. The training will focus on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), Good Environmental Practices (GEP), Good Social Practices (GSP), and Occupational Health and Safety Practices (OHSP) in alignment with the Rainforest Alliance Sustainable Agriculture standard version 1.3.
2. Financial and Business Support: You will offer technical field assistance and coaching to farmers on financial services, income diversification strategies, and market information access to enhance their entrepreneurship skills and support their farm businesses.
3. Traceability and Compliance: Your role will involve monitoring and collecting traceability data digitally from both farmers and Purchasing Clerks in the assigned communities. Ensuring compliance with the SAS standard and client requirements will be essential.
4. Farm Business Improvement: You will work on building the capacity of farmers to adopt and implement better farming practices by providing exposure to new knowledge, information, skills, inputs, and processes. The aim is to improve the long-term sustainability of their farm businesses.
5. Project Coordination: You may be required to coordinate activities or events related to other projects, such as seedlings distribution and client visits.
Requirements:
– A background in agriculture, sustainable farming, or related fields.
– Experience in providing training and field support to farmers or rural communities.
– Knowledge of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), Good Environmental Practices (GEP), and other sustainability standards will be advantageous.
– Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage with farmers and project stakeholders.
– Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse, international team.
– Fluency in English (local language proficiency is a plus).
– Willingness to travel within the designated region.
