Job overview: The General Manager is responsible for leading and directing all operational, financial, and strategic activities within the company. The General Manager will drive strategic initiatives, operational efficiency, uphold safety compliance with industry regulations, manage resources effectively to achieve business goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
1. Strategic Leadership:
· Develop and execute long-term business strategies and goals that align with the company’s vision and mission.
· Identify market trends, competitive landscape, and opportunities for expansion and diversification.
· Identify growth opportunities, potential acquisitions, and partnerships to expand the upstream portfolio.
· Continuously follow up and monitor progress of partnerships and agreements which must be in place for successful execution of project(s).
· Make informed decisions to optimize operations, enhance profitability, and maintain sustainable growth.
· Develop proposals, presentations and requested documentation for potential partners, clients and stakeholders.
· Prepare winning tenders requested by potential clients.
2. Operations Management:
· Oversee all aspects of business supply chain.
· Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards, and implement best practices to mitigate risks.
· Monitor project schedules, enforce quality standards to ensure that project deliverables meet the specified requirements and operational efficiency to maximize output and minimize downtime.
3. Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Compliance:
· Champion a strong safety culture and ensure all HSE regulations and guidelines are followed.
· Implement and oversee rigorous safety programs, risk assessments, and incident reporting procedures.
· Continuously improve HSE practices to mitigate operational risks and protect the environment.
4. Financial Management:
· Develop and manage budgets, financial forecasts, and cost-control initiatives.
· Monitor financial performance, analyze variances, and implement corrective measures when necessary.
· Optimize resource allocation to achieve cost-effectiveness and profitability.
5. Stakeholder Relations:
· Establish and maintain positive relationships with regulatory agencies, government bodies, community stakeholders, and industry partners.
· Communicate effectively with investors, shareholders, and board members, providing regular updates on company performance and strategic initiatives.
6. Reporting and Communication:
· Provide regular updates to the executive leadership team and board of directors on the performance of upstream operations, key milestones, and potential challenges.
· Prepare and present comprehensive reports, presentations, and business plans to support strategic decision-making

Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Geology, Business Administration, or related field. Master’s degree is a plus.
· Extensive experience (typically 5+ years) in the oil and gas industry, with progressively responsible roles, including management and leadership positions.
· In-depth knowledge of the upstream oil and gas industry.
· Strong understanding of regulatory requirements, safety standards, and environmental considerations in the oil and gas sector.
· Demonstrated stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
· Proven track record of strategic planning, financial management, and driving operational excellence.
· Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
· Proven ability to drive change, make informed decisions under pressure and manage complex projects.
· Proficiency in relevant software and technology used in the industry.
