Gender Equity and Social Inclusion Advisor, West Africa

The Gender Equity and Social Inclusion (GESI) Advisor will lead the integration and improving the quality and relevance of GESI activities on an anticipated donor-funded regional project in West Africa. S/he will provide guidance on gender and social inclusion mainstreaming through project implementation. S/he will be responsible for gender and social inclusion analysis and program strategy. The GESI Advisor will be based in Ghana.

Role and Responsibility

  • Provide technical leadership in agenda setting on gender integration, policy, implementation, measurement, and reporting.
  • Provide technical assistance to a range of actors in West Africa to integrate gender in their portfolios in accordance with USAID guidance and policy.
  • Design and deliver gender training including the development or sourcing of resource materials.
  • Ensure compliance with USAID, national, and regional policies related to gender and inclusive development, women, peace, and security, strategy development, project design and implementation, and monitoring and evaluation, as applicable.
  • Conduct baseline GESI analysis, working with the project team and partners to co-design a GESI strategy and support gender integration.
  • Provide oversight and contributions to the activities and grant development process that will ensure that the process is equitable, accessible, and inclusive to minority and women-owned and operated entities.
  • Work with the technical team and potential beneficiaries, partners and/or grantees to ensure that all programmatic training and technical assistance provided by the project exemplifies best practice in gender and inclusion.
  • Contribute to monitoring and evaluation activities focusing on GESI and support the design and implementation of GESI related indicators.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in social studies, women’s studies, political economy, international development, or a related field; Master’s degree is preferred.
  • At least five (5) years of technical experience in donor-funded gender and social inclusion programming, USAID experience preferred.
  • Technical expertise in gendered approaches to P/CVE, peacebuilding and/ or stabilization
  • Technical expertise with women, youth, marginalized groups and social inclusion in the context of governance, conflict prevention, regional peacebuilding and resilience
  • Experience and knowledge of issues related to gender integration, mainstreaming and social inclusion in West Africa
  • Strong analytical, data gathering and community interaction skills.
  • Knowledge and skills in planning, monitoring, training, organizing and leading workshops.
  • English and French fluency is required.
