Job Summary:
The Policy and Advocacy Officer will coordinate and lead YAG’s policy and advocacy-related initiatives. He/She will ensure the organization’s advocacy remains relevant, effective, and responsive to emerging trends of policy issues related to adolescents and youth development. He/She will lead the review and development of position papers, campaigns, policy webinars, and policy briefs on various policy issues, coordinate engagements with key stakeholders, and represent YAG publicly on topics related to the organization’s work.
Responsibilities
. Plan, develop, and implement advocacy plans and strategies that identify key issues affecting adolescents and youth and targeted interventions across all thematic areas of YAG’s work.
· Develop articles, policy briefs, and advocacy messages on critical issues of interest.
· Work closely with the communication team to link national, regional, and global policy-making with our campaigns around key youth development priorities.
· Be responsible for proposing and lobbying initiatives for the organization
· Attend and represent the organization in meetings, conferences etc
· Prepare and market proposals for fundraising projects
· Revise policies related to advocacy.
· Ensure we are informed of changes in the policy landscape through regular Intel gathering (e.g. reading, meetings, and events, maintaining contacts).
· Support the Convener for the African Youth SDGs Summit in national, regional and global advocacy, monitoring, and accountability initiatives for the SDGs and Agenda 2063
· Share policy information and external influencing opportunities, and manage relationships with key donors/partners.
· Support the Policy and Research officer in the development of high-quality analysis, policy briefings, recommendations, and positions relating to our advocacy and policy priorities
Qualifications
· A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in development planning, planning, communications, social sciences, or a related field.
· Capacity to produce high-quality, briefs and reports.
· Proficiency in Windows Excel, qualitative and quantitative analysis
· Excellent communications skills (verbal and written)
· Demonstrated ability to train and build the capacity of others
· Strong interpersonal skills and positive outlook
· Strong interest in and knowledge of social media
· Savvy in diplomatic relations
· Ability to coordinate and inspire young people
