In a surprising turn of events, former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah, tendered her resignation last Saturday. However, her departure from the government was not the end of the story, as she soon found herself at the center of a storm of controversy. The Office of Special Prosecutor (OSP) arrested her on suspicion of involvement in corruption and related offenses.

The allegations against Ms. Dapaah stem from the reported theft of large sums of money and personal properties from her residence in Abelempke, Accra. The incident, which led to the trial of five individuals, raised eyebrows and fueled calls for an investigation into the source of the substantial funds.

According to the OSP’s statement, “Ms. Dapaah is being questioned by authorized officers of the OSP,” indicating that the investigation is underway to shed light on the matter.

The ongoing criminal trial involves two house helps, Patience Botwe (18 years old) and Sarah Agyei (30 years old), alongside three other suspects. The charges against them include stealing $1 million, €300,000, and millions of Ghanaian cedis from Ms. Dapaah and her husband between July and October 2022.

However, Ms. Dapaah contests the amounts stated in the prosecution charge sheets, claiming that they do not align with what she reported to the police. The discrepancies raise further questions about the case and add to the complexity of the unfolding situation.

As news of the trial and the missing funds spread, public demand for a thorough investigation into Ms. Dapaah’s involvement intensified. The allegations of corruption and the large sums at stake have heightened the public’s interest in finding out the truth behind the incident.
